Elvis Gambles on a Good Time
“Elvis and the Pink Cadillac Corpse” by Peggy Webb is required summer reading! It’s food, fun, and frivolity—along with a little murder—as Elvis, Callie, Lovie, Ruby Nell, and the linguistic challenged Fayrene head to Las Vegas. You may think that sounds like any other book in this series, but if you can read this one without laughing out loud and disturbing everyone around you, you’re a better person than me.
Love is cooking her best to win the big trophy at the Vegas cook off. It begins with beef, moves to fried chicken, and ends, of course, with a glorious dessert. But before Lovie can be in the competition, with Callie as her sous chef, they have to deal with a body in Ruby Nell’s trunk, a missing chef, and the nastiness of the vindictive chef whose station is next door to Lovie’s. It’s enough to make your cake fall.
I’m not kidding when I saw I laughed out loud while reading this, and I’m loving that Callie and Jack are back together and hope is alive for her unused, fertile eggs. Ruby Nell and Fayrene have their own adventure while Uncle Charlie and Jack end up in town to clear up a few things.
“Elvis and the Pink Cadillac Corpse” is another hit for Peggy Webb. She doesn’t disappoint, which is why readers like me always look forward to the next book in this delightful series of small-town beauty shops, catering queens, convenience store/bait shop, and two men who are so stealthy nobody knows if it’s shadows or two Company men.

Elvis and the Pink Cadillac Corpse edition by Peggy Webb Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I so enjoy this light fun reading. I particularly love the way Fayrene just murders the English while everyone else just takes it in stride. I have a dear friend who does the same thing. It keeps me on my toes!
Loved the book, she makes me laugh out loud. I wish we didn't have to wait for the paper edition. Love this series!!
Peggy Webb is back in good form — and perhaps with a better editor. This Southern Cousins recaptures much of the exuberant spirit of the early books in the series.
Comedy, mystery and romance. What more could you ask for? These characters become old friends. But the star is The King come back as a basset hound. He will tickle your funny bone. Wonderful writing and clever word play bring it all to perfection. Can't get enough!
I always enjoy my time spent with this eccentrically quirky cast of characters that includes Ruby Nell and her BFF Fayrene. With Lovie and Callie on the scene, it's a known fact that they will become entangled in a murder or two. The stuff that Ruby Nell and Fayrene do to the body had me laughing at their antics. Not to be left out, Callie, Lovie and Elvis do their own thing and it's a joy to watch this group sift out a killer
A little bit of Elvis goes a long way--and in this installment, there is just way too much. Same for Callie's eggs--we get it already. Same for Fayrene's malapropisms--annoying, not amusing.
Taken together, they do not make up for the total lack of plot.
Nor do they make up for reducing Lovie, who in my opinion is the heart and soul of the series, to a profanity-spewing, bat-wielding glutton with delusions of sexiness.
And finally, the editing, or rather, the total lack of editing is beyond irritating. Ms. Webb should be embarrassed--this book was only halfway ready for publication and should never been foisted on Southern Cousins fans in its current, lamentable condition.
A friend started me on the Elvis series, and I always look forward to the next installment. I love seeing what trouble Callie, Lovie, Ruby Nell, and Fayrene can get into, and how Elvis helps to solve the mysteries. There is a lot of humor in all of the books, and this one continues that tradition.

However, I am very disheartened by the extremely poor editing this time- or maybe there was none at all. There were missing words in sentences, word endings were left off, and many other careless errors that really stopped the momentum several times. I understand that we are talking about fiction for pleasure, and not high-brow literature, but there really isn't any excuse for the number of errors that I noticed within the first few chapters, let alone in the whole book. Given the lack of attention that the author obviously paid to putting out a quality product, I'm not likely to recommend this book to anyone. That's a shame, because the stories and characters are so enjoyable. This isn't a problem with Peggy Webb alone, as many books that I have purchased over the last few years have also had numerous glaring errors in them.

Because of the careless or nonexistent editing, I would not recommend this installment in the Elvis series to anyone, and that saddens me. I hope Ms. Webb takes more care in future books, or she will lose previously loyal readers.
